2021 Admissions Guide of Jeme Tienyow Honors College

　　1.Training Positioning

　　In July 2020, Beijing Jiaotong University established a new college for the cultivation of innovative top-notch Talents----Jeme Tienyow Honors College (referred to as Jeme Tienyow Honors College). In accordance with the requirements of the Emerging Technology College construction, Jeme Tienyow Honors College builds an interdisciplinary mechanism, explores diversified cultivation modes, provides design of multiple export system, promotes multi-subject collaborative education, and promotes multi-faceted comprehensive changes. Jeme Tienyow Honors College gives full play to the advantages of the first-class discipline group of "Intelligent Transportation" of Beijing Jiaotong University, deepens the education reform of "academy system, tutorial system, and credit system", and implements the four-linked talent training model of "undergraduate-postgraduate integration, discipline integration, industry-university integration, and international interoperability" to create two types of innovative top-notch talent training experimental fields named Plateau Plan" and "Peak Plan". The college educates people for the party, educates talents for the country, cultivates future science and technology leaders who have a global mind and a sense of family and country, and who serve the strategy of building a strong country in transportation and lead the development of smart transportation.

　　2.Training Mode

　　Jeme Tienyow Honors College implements the eight-year consistent system and the “3 + 5” integration between undergraduate and Ph.D. The first three years are the undergraduate training stage, and the last five years are the doctoral training stage.

　　At the undergraduate level, the college adopts a general education training which emphasizes “solid foundation and wide caliber”, selects majors and minors, allocates interdisciplinary dual tutors, consolidates the subject foundation and strengthens the interdisciplinary.

　　In the fourth year, students begin to obtain the qualifications of going straight to Ph.D in Beijing Jiaotong University. At the same time, students begin to study the doctoral level courses, complete the undergraduate graduation project, and obtain the undergraduate major and minor degrees.

　　After the fifth year, students rely on high-level scientific research platforms such as the school’s National Frontier Science Center and the State Key Laboratory to carry out academic research and enhance their innovation capabilities. Relying on the "111" Talent Introduction Base, the college actively builds an international training platform, cultivates students' international ability, and provides students with opportunities for overseas visits (including joint training) for no less than one year. Students can obtain a doctorate degree from this school within five years. If they meet the requirements for a joint doctorate degree from an overseas university, they can obtain two doctorate degrees at home and abroad.

　　3.Training Path

　　After freshmen are admitted by our school, the college organizes policy announcements, registration, assessment and other tasks, and completes the selection of outstanding students before the official start of the semester. The enrollment scale of the school is about 300.

　　The college adopts a rolling mechanism for student training and management, and implements dynamic selection. In accordance with the principle of "with academic performance as the foundation and with comprehensive quality and academic potential as the core", the selection, adjustment, and directional selection and supplementation of students' training models and directions are carried out.

　　The college does not distinguish majors in the first year, and strengthen the foundation of students' mathematics, information, and language skills. Before the second academic year, according to the scale of the faculty training plan issued by the school, the students select majors corresponding to the postgraduate discipline direction according to the different faculties. The direction of the department is divided into Plateau Plan and Peak Plan. Plateau Plan is for basic subjects, and Peak Plan is for superior subjects. The faculties include the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Optoelectronics, Faculty of Intelligent Information, Faculty of Communication Electronics, Faculty of Intelligent Transportation, Faculty of Intelligent Energy, Faculty of Intelligent Construction, Faculty of Intelligent Manufacturing, and Faculty of Economic Management. In the second academic year, the doctoral supervisor is determined, and the "3+5" integration between undergraduate and Ph.D. (called Track A) begins. The remaining faculty training places and reserved places will be supplemented by all the students in whole school at the end of the first year. Qualified students directly enter the designated undergraduate faculty, and choose the corresponding faculty as the major, and enter the Track A as the supplement. At the end of the second academic year, the students of Track A signs the "3+5" training agreement for the master's degree, and in the third academic year, they will start to study minor majors in accordance with their own wishes and strengthen professional learning on this basis. This method can achieve characteristics of talent training on the basis of interdisciplinary. In the fourth year, the college promotes the "3+5" integration between undergraduate and Ph.D. and enters the undergraduate and Ph.D. cohesion training stage. Students complete the corresponding doctoral training in the fifth to eighth academic year.

　　In order to ensure the continuity and sense of belonging of students in Jeme Tienyow Honors College, students who does not enter Track A can apply for the Undergraduate Project of Jeme Tienyow Honors College (referred to as the Track B) before the second academic year, which means they can complete the undergraduate study at Jeme Tienyow Honors College and obtain an undergraduate degree. Students can also choose to enter a professional college (referred to as Track C).

　　Jeme Tienyow Honors College offers special majors for Track B students, formulates training programs that are in line with the development of students and strengthens the compound abilities of professional practice, adopts college system, credit system, and tutorial system training to serve students to complete their undergraduate studies and enter the society for employment or make further study. Jeme Tienyow Honors College’s indicators of exemption from exams for postgraduate studies are all put on track A, while track B has not this indicator.

　　For students who voluntarily choose to enter a professional college (Track C) to study, Jeme Tienyow Honors College will fully integrate the students' interests and aspirations to match them with the corresponding colleges, evaluate and give students the arrangements of suitable colleges and majors.

　　4.Training Practice

　　The college establishes the system of integration between undergraduate and Ph.D., explores the educational reform of new colleges, new courses, and new academies. It builds the "academic, professional, and occupational" tutor system to guide students to resolve early, prepare early, and participate early. It creates Tianyou characteristic cultural connotation and focus on the all-round development of students.

　　The college fosters an atmosphere which emphasizes experts lead students to learn together. The college builds three platforms academic growth-"On Tianyou Palace", "Tianyou Masters Sharing", "Tianyou Afternoon Tea", where students learn face-to-face with well-known scholars and industry elites. The college builds a team of graduate teaching assistants for core courses to help students' academic development.

　　The college innovates the “Three-Integrity Education” working mechanism and forms a “six-in-one” collaborative education situation. All the faculty and staff members of the college participate in the work of student party building, and actively do a good job of ideological guidance and demonstration of words and deeds. 44 professors from professional colleges serve as academic tutors to guide students to understand the professional characteristics and frontiers of the discipline. The college employs backbones from departments to serve as head teachers, deepen the construction of teams and optimize the education links. The college specially invites sports and psychology teachers to serve as community consultants to help students’ physical and mental health. What’s more, the college selects 34 postgraduates as course assistants and sets the fixed time and fixed teachers to answer questions. The college selects all outstanding senior students from the school as class assistants in order to build a role model carrier.

　　The college focuses on the improvement of students' comprehensive quality and guides students' overall development in multiple dimensions. Aiming at students’ sense of belonging to the college, adjustment of learning styles, diversification of university life, study career planning, and cultivation of family and country feelings, etc., the college organizes a series of activities of "Civilize My Spirit, Barbarize My Physique", and holds the "Tianyou Eight Lectures" theme grade conference which cultivate students’ national sentiment, independence, and collaboration in the the whole process. The college’s dormitory excellence rate is the first in the school, sports coverage is more than 90%, and the physical fitness test is ranked second in the school. The grassroots youth league branch won the honorary title of the school’s “Top Ten Youth League Day”.

　　After nearly a year of exploration and practice, the talent training results of Jeme Tienyow Honors College have been highlighted, students' sense of gain has been greatly improved, and student satisfaction has become higher and higher.
